Have you ever thought you’d like to be part of the OOIDA Board of Directors? Now is your chance to run for election. Every two years, OOIDA holds an election for alternates to the Association’s Board. Alternates are elected by and from the membership for two-year terms.
As part of OOIDA’s semi-annual Board of Directors’ meeting, the Nomination-Election Committee met at the Grain Valley headquarters on Oct. 16 to nail down details of the upcoming election. All alternate board member terms expire in 2014.
Board Secretary Robert Esler announced that OOIDA will be accepting nominations Nov. 15 through Dec. 31, 2013.
The election process officially begins Nov. 15, 2013, when the Nomination-Election Committee will begin sending nomination forms to all current dues-paying members. Esler said the Association also plans to make the nomination forms available online.
Here’s how it works. Members can nominate themselves or another qualified member. According to the Association bylaws, a member is qualified to be nominated as an alternate provided he or she has a minimum of five consecutive years of commercial truck driving experience and five consecutive years of active membership in the Association immediately before the nomination. The deadline to return nomination forms is Dec. 31.
Once all nomination forms are received, the Nomination-Election Committee will verify qualification of the nominees, conduct interviews of those individuals, and submit a ballot to the full membership for its consideration. The election will take place in the fall of 2014, and successful nominees will be seated at the 2015 spring board meeting.
