OOIDA will once again be sponsoring its Truckers for Troops campaign drive during December to raise funds for sending care packages with items of comfort and cheer to our armed forces stationed overseas. This year’s campaign will run from Dec. 9-13, 2013.
Since 2007, OOIDA members have raised $362,062.34, which has enabled the Association to send thousands of large care packages to U.S. troops serving in combat zones. In six years, OOIDA has sent 2,526 packages full of comfort items, necessities, fun stuff and handmade cards. Those items made life a little brighter for thousands of military personnel and military dogs.
Care packages are filled at OOIDA headquarters in Grain Valley, MO, and shipped overseas.
“The campaign has become a favorite with members and OOIDA employees,” says Norita Taylor, public affairs director at OOIDA. “Since we started Truckers for Troops in 2007, those boxes we pack here at headquarters have delivered items to more than 30,000 individuals.”
Every year, Land Line Now, the Association’s official radio show on Sirius XM satellite radio, promotes the campaign during its regularly scheduled broadcasts each day from 7 to 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. to midnight Eastern Time. You can hear Land Line Now on The Road Dog Channel, Sirius 128.
During the campaign period new and renewal memberships are discounted to the special price of only $25 for – a savings of $20 off regular $45 dues. Of the dues amount paid during the campaign week, 10 percent will go toward the Truckers for Troops fund. OOIDA will then match those funds.
The special $25 membership price will remain in effect until Jan. 31, 2014. Only memberships during the campaign dates will go toward the Truckers for Troops fund.
Individual tax-deductible contributions to the Truckers for Troops fund are also welcome and can be paid to the OOIDA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
