“We are working with the state and our carriers on alternate routes as well as seeing what assistance we can provide communities,” CMCA president Gregory Fulton said. “We ask that your folks place those folks in our state that have been affected by these tragic events in their prayers.”

As of Monday, the Red Cross was operating nine shelters in and around flood-ravaged communities in Colorado. At least eight people have died and hundreds more are still awaiting helicopter rescues from remote communities that have been cut off by surging waters.

Flood conditions are being reported across 17 counties statewide. An estimated 11,750 people have been evacuated and 1,500 homes have been destroyed, according to the state’s emergency management office.

Fulton also said drivers traveling through Colorado should consult the website for the latest information on state and federal roadway closings. The website is operated by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
