Chrome Shop Mafia’s truck show hopes to smash records

Bryan Martin knows a thing or two about truck shows, and he promises next month’s Guilty By Association show and event in Joplin, Mo., will be a show like no other. This year’s show takes place from Thursday, Sept. 26, through Saturday, Sept. 28, and for one thing, it’s free.

“It’s one of the few shows that doesn’t cost anything,” said Martin, of 4 State Trucks in Joplin. “It’s really just a customer appreciation weekend and truck show. Bring your truck. It doesn’t have to be a show truck. If you’re proud of it and you want to wash it and park it and hang out with us all weekend, you’re welcome.”

Once again, Martin and the rest of the gang at the Chrome Shop Mafia will be teaming up with Special Olympics of Southwest Missouri to raise funds for the program.

Last year, 164 drivers participated in a convoy for Special Olympics, setting a new world record, and raising more than $24,000. Truckers who want to be in the convoy must donate $100 to Special Olympics. Martin said the first five positions are auctioned off before the event.

Martin’s goal is to blow past those numbers this year, and to take the convoy through historic downtown Joplin on Friday night.

“We’re going to leave here at 6 p.m. and convoy down and through old downtown Joplin,” he said. “The city’s working with us. They’re giving us eight city blocks to fill with trucks.”

In addition to truck show favorites like tractor pulls and award shows, Martin says the show will feature a golf cart pull. There will also be live music, a truck and tractor pull, fireworks and other live entertainment, as well as a host of children’s activities. 4 State Trucks is offering a special 10 percent-off discount on all merchandise that weekend. The trucks for the team’s annual calendar will also be chosen from vehicles on site for the show.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and earplugs, and to call 4 States at 417-624-2900 ahead of time to let them know you’re coming.
