Pilot CEO continues calling possible victims of alleged fuel rebate scam

Since the company’s alleged rebate scheme broke open more than three weeks ago, Pilot Flying J CEO James “Jimmy” Haslam III has been making the rounds, calling 250 to 300 of its trucking company customers, in an effort to make things right.

Tom Ingram, spokesman for Pilot Flying J, confirmed in a statement to Land Line on Wednesday, May 8, that Haslam has called that many trucking companies since “it all began.”

“He is calling as many customers as possible,” said Ingram, “focused on those that may have been affected.”

When asked about the possible number of trucking companies on Haslam’s list still to call, Rachel Albright of the Ingram Group, Pilot’s PR firm, told Land Line he plans to call “as many as it takes.”

Criminal and civil lawsuits continue to mount against Pilot Flying J over allegations its sales staff and executives underpaid fuel rebates to small and mid-size trucking companies. On Monday, April 15, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service raided Pilot Flying J corporate headquarters, seizing computers and documents related to the alleged fuel rebate fraud scheme.
