Authorities investigating the death of a truck driver who was killed while helping to load a large piece of heavy, rounded steel are saying the cause of death was accidental.

Bobby Wayne Higginson, 59, of Homedale, ID, was helping two other individuals load the steel onto the back of his flatbed trailer at around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Cactus Wellhead, an oil and gas production equipment manufacturer.

“The object (being loaded) began to roll and knocked him off the trailer and rolled on top of him,” said Mark Natale, a spokesman with the Bossier City police.

Higginson was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We’ve determined it to be an accidental death,” Natale said.

Elizabeth Todd, a spokeswoman for the Department of Labor’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration, said Monday that OSHA has opened an investigation but cannot comment on the incident until the investigation is completed.
