The judges have spoken, and the American Truck Dealers have named the Kenworth T680 the Class 8 truck of the year.

Kenworth rolled out the T680 with 76-inch sleeper during the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY, calling it the most aerodynamic and fuel-efficient truck in its fleet to date.

A five-member panel of judges recognized the effort during the National Automobile Dealers Association and American Truck Dealers conventions Feb. 8-11 in Orange County, FL.

The panel gave the T680 the nod over the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution with Detroit DT12 transmission, Peterbilt model 579 and Western Star 4700SF.

Judges’ notes highlighted comfort and drivability, the pulling power of the Paccar MX Engine, easy shifting from a 10-speed manual transmission, and well set-up gauges and controls.

“I think the reason we produced this award-winning truck is due to the efforts of the last four years during which we found customers were looking for significant fuel savings, high visibility, high-tech equipment and enjoyment,” said Gary Moore, general manager of Kenworth and Paccar vice president. “Our customers are looking for a complete home, office and work package.”

The American Truck Dealers awarded the medium-duty Class 3-7 title to the Hino 195th.
