U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-PA, announced Rep. John J. Duncan, R-TN as the committee’s vice chairman on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Shuster has also announced Rep. Tom Petri, R-WI, as chairman of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, where much of the committee work on trucking and infrastructure issues occurs.
Duncan, Petri and other subcommittee chairmen are expected to be confirmed Jan. 23. Shuster is expected to release subcommittee rosters at that time. He recently released the full roster of the T&I Committee.
Shuster became T&I chairman through a vote of the House Republican caucus. He took over for Rep. John Mica, R-FL, who was term-limited as chairman through caucus rules.
On the Democratic side of the aisle, the ranking member of the full committee continues to be Rep. Nick Rahall, D-WV. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-OR, also ranks high on the committee and formerly chaired the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit when Democrats held the majority.
Other subcommittee announcements of note are Rep. Jeff Denham, R-CA, who will chair the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-NJ, who chairs the Subcommittee on Aviation, holds a CDL.
