Navistar Inc., headquartered in Lisle, IL, is recalling the brake S-cam tube bracket assemblies on some of its newer model International tractors, citing possible brake assembly fractures that could result in an increased risk of a vehicle crash.
Navistar notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Nov. 21 that as many as 6,779 International tractors may be included in the recall, including six newer models of the International 9900, the LoneStar, the PayStar, the ProStar, the TranStar and the WorkStar, manufactured from Aug. 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012. The recall is on the brake S-Cam tube bracket assemblies on the steer axles, which may fracture and could cause the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly or cause an increase in the stopping distance. The affected tractors will have front brake linings listed as feature codes 0504501 or 0504504.
The recall is expected to begin by Jan. 21, 2013. Navistar plans to notify owners, and dealers will replace S-Cam tube bracket assemblies free of charge. Those with questions are urged to call Navistar at 800-448-7825 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236.
