More than 50 drivers for a Kansas City-based trucking company have received grim news that Thunderbird Trucking Inc. is shutting its doors.

Drivers for Thunderbird Trucking, formerly Palmentere Brothers Cartage Service Inc., say they received notification in mid-October that the company was closing.

The company’s bodily injury and property damage insurance policy was canceled on Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s SAFER database. The company listed that it had 52 power units and drivers in February 2012.

According to court documents, Palmentere Bros. Leasing LLC, doing business as Thunderbird Trucking, filed a Chapter 11 voluntary bankruptcy petition on Sept. 14. The company lists its estimated number of creditors as between 100 and 199, and both its assets and liabilities as being between $1 million and $10 million.
