In Columbia, SC, the search for a missing girl now involves more than 40 sheriff’s officers and FBI agents. On Aug. 18, 15-year-old Gabrielle Swainson vanished from her home in the early-morning hours while her mother was at work.

Investigators don’t think the high school cheerleader and solid student is a runaway.

Gabrielle Swainson

Her father, OOIDA member Alvin Thompson, lives in Virginia. He said he and other members of the family have gone out on searches of their own in the Columbia area.

“We borrowed a couple of ATVs and went out in the woods and went up to abandoned houses – and in the attics of abandoned houses looking around – but we didn’t find anything,” said Thompson.

Gabrielle Swainson is black, medium height and build, with long hair and distinctive turquoise-colored braces on her teeth.

Investigators say she was last seen in her pajamas and she is believed to have her iPhone with her.
