California city cracks down on roadside truck parking

Overnight truck parking restrictions are being enforced in San Juan Capistrano, CA, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. along the east side of Camino Capistrano, north of Junipero Serra Road, north and south of the Trabuco Creek Bridge.

Alan Oswald, senior engineer/traffic for the City of San Juan Capistrano, told Land Line it has been illegal to park there at any time for a number of years, but truck drivers are still doing it.

“It’s not a lot of trucks, just two or three,” he said.

Although Oswald recommended parking on private property “someplace,” he had no suggestions other than heading south on I-5 about 15 to 20 miles to the rest area south of San Clemente.

Signs should be up in a couple of weeks. The exact amount of fines is unknown, but overnight parking will bring two violations: parking in a no-parking area and parking an oversize vehicle on a city street.
