OOIDA's webinar helps you spec a new or used truck

| Friday, April 06, 2012

If you think it’s time to buy a truck or replace your truck, don’t miss the next webinar in OOIDA’s Business Education Series. It covers spec’ing a new or used truck.

Buying a truck is usually the biggest financial outlay for your business, and finding the best fit for your operation is essential to your success.

This webinar helps you determine the returns on investment for fairings, boat tails and other mileage enhancers. It also covers topics like the demographics of where you’re planning to haul and which engines and drive trains are best.

Do you know how to find the “sweet spot” of an engine to get the maximum mileage and the least wear? What do you consider when looking for a used truck? Is it better to lease or buy? Tune in to get the answers on these questions and more.

You can catch the live broadcast on Thursday, April 12, or view it later in the archive.

OOIDA Life Member Victor Volpe wanted to know what he could do to improve the way he runs his business.

He participated in OOIDA’s recent business education series. Afterward, he said: “If you have a love of the road, but you wonder … Where does a trucker go to work their way through the maze? ... I’ve found none better than OOIDA’s webinars. It was the best investment I ever made! Make something out of your membership. They are just waiting to help you.”

Few business-training seminars can offer OOIDA’s experience and knowledge of trucking related topics, especially those relevant to owner-operators. The 2012 series is no exception.

Webinar host Tom Gann says, “The 2012 lineup of topics includes new subject matter that was suggested by participants of our past programs. … Plus we have updated the curriculum of presented topics to reflect the always changing regulations in the industry.”

The new series of webinars gives truckers a one-two punch with some programs designed to help drivers understand rules, regulations and industry requirements, while other courses teach participants about the business side of trucking.

Look for topics like transitioning from company driver to owner-operator, the authority process, preparing for and passing a new entrant safety audit, and more.

OOIDA designed the program with convenience and truckers’ schedules in mind. “Webinars are presented by industry professionals in a user-friendly format delivered directly to the participant’s computer,” Gann said.

Programs can be viewed during the original airing, and participants can revisit the material later at their convenience. Or they can sign up to view any program in the easy-to-access archive files, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There will be two programs a month, each lasting about an hour. All programs are designed to help drivers at all levels in their career. Truckers may purchase the entire course, or choose individual programs, or pick several webinars with smaller, affordable package deals.
