Minnesota-based owner-operators and small trucking businesses have a new opportunity to purchase idling alternatives with low-interest loans.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency recently announced a low-interest loan program for small-business trucking companies to purchase idle-reduction equipment.

The MPCA is accepting applications from Minnesota-based small trucking companies for APUs or battery pack systems that run in-cab air conditioning, heaters and electricity. Applicants are “strongly encouraged” to request their application forms from MPCA before April 23.

The loans must be within $1,000 and $50,000, and are at either a 4 percent interest rate or one-half the prime rate, whichever is greater at the time the loan is awarded. Repayment must be made within five years.

Also, for applicants purchasing a diesel APU through the program, their truck engine year must be pre-2007 model year, said Alexis Donath, a spokeswoman for the program.

For more information, contact the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s small business ombudsman at 651-757-2121 or 1-800-985-4247. The loan program’s website is available here.
