The latest round of fake U.S. Department of Transportation letters has been circulating,

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has released an informational bulletin saying letters dated March 16, 2012 are being circulated among motor carriers. The letters say they are from the “U.S. Department of Transportation Procurement Office” and are signed by a fictitious name, “Julie Weynel – Senior Procurement Officer.”

The fraudulent letters attempt to obtain a response along with banking information from companies specifically targeted, FMCSA said.

FMCSA said anyone who receives such a letter should notify local law enforcement agencies about possible fraudulent financial data collection activity.

“Be suspicious when being asked for banking information from anyone,” FMCSA said in the bulletin.
