The biggest cargo ship ever to visit the Port of Long Beach in California arrived Friday, March 16, and off-loaded thousands of cargo containers.
The MSC Fabiola is 1,200 feet long and 157 feet wide, and can carry more than 12,000 20-foot equivalent containers – half again as many as most ships. The ship, which previously served Asia-to-Europe trade routes, came from the Port of Yantian in China. It is making its maiden voyage in the trans-Pacific trade.
A port press release says the Fabiola is the first of what’s expected to be a new generation of huge container ships that will sail between Asia and the U.S.
