The bean counting is done. The TravelCenters of America has concluded its second annual “Band Together for SCF” campaign with $212,538.87 in donations to support the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund.

Customers and employees of TA and Petro Stopping Centers made donations from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31, 2011, by buying a blue (TA) or green (Petro) wristband for $1 each.

TA and Petro raised more than $212,000 for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund through the sale of wrist bands.

The SCF is a not-for-profit organization that provides assistance to professional truck drivers suffering from financial hardship due to medical problems. TA/Petro has been a supporter of SCF since the charity was established in 2007, but the 2011 fundraiser has put them firmly at the top of the leader board for contributions.

In the 2010 fundraiser, TA/Petro generated $211,115 in donations from their first “Band Together” campaign.

The check for the 2011 campaign was presented on Thursday, Jan. 26, to Dr. Donna Kennedy, executive director of SCF on Dave Nemo’s show on the Road Dog Trucking channel, SiriusXM 106. Nemo is among the founders of SCF.

“With the very generous help of TA and Petro customers and employees, the SCF has helped more than 470 drivers and their families,” said Kennedy. “This donation will allow us to help many more with utility bills, mortgage payments and other monthly bills.”

She said that the campaign prompted a sizey increase in the number of applications from drivers who need assistance.

“While we would prefer drivers not have to suffer financially,” she said, “we’re very happy they know we are here.”

One hundred percent of all donations collected went to the St. Christopher fund.
