OOIDA webinar breaks down authority options for new motor carriers

| Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Are you common? Contract, exempt? What kind of authority is best for your operation? The second webinar in OOIDA’s 2012 Business Education series will answer these questions for you and more.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each kind of authority, depending on your business model, and the required forms can be intimidating. Let OOIDA prepare you for the process and help you make the best decisions for your trucking business.

Catch the live webinar Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. Central time. That time doesn’t work with your schedule? No problem. All of the webinars are archived and easily accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week so you can view and review them at your convenience.

OOIDA designed the program with truckers’ lifestyles in mind. Webinar host Tom Gann says, “Webinars are presented by industry professionals in a user-friendly format delivered directly to the participant’s computer.”

Not many business-training seminars can offer OOIDA’s experience and knowledge of trucking topics, especially those relevant to owner-operators.

“The 2012 lineup of topics includes new subject matter that was suggested by participants of our past programs. … Plus we have updated the curriculum of presented topics to reflect the always changing regulations in the industry,” Gann said.

The new series of webinars gives truckers a one-two punch with some programs designed to help drivers understand rules, regulations and industry requirements, while other courses teach participants about the business side of trucking.

Look for topics like the authority process, preparing for and passing a new entrant safety audit, spec’ing a new or used truck and more.

There are two programs a month, each lasting about an hour. All programs are designed to help drivers at any level in their career. Truckers may purchase the entire course, or choose individual programs, or pick several webinars with smaller package deals.

OOIDA Senior Member Margaret Walton of Coatesville, PA, says, “What a good investment of an hour of my time! The Cost of Operations and Tax Issues webinar showed me how to develop a detailed financial picture of my niche hauling business.

“The personalized and very helpful attention the OOIDA webinar presenters gave my questions before, during and after the broadcast really impressed me. I wasn’t expecting to receive that kind of personal attention to my specific questions while participating in a computer-based class.”
