Trucker hijacked in Long Beach; cargo stolen

| Thursday, October 24, 2002

An armed bandit overtook a truckdriver Sunday morning in West Long Beach and made off with electronic equipment just loaded at the port. The stolen cargo's value has not been determined, but it is reported to exceed "several thousand dollars."

The robbery occurred just after the trucker, whose name was not released, filled his fuel tank in the 2100 block of West Pacific Coast Highway at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

The trucker began heading east on PCH when a man apparently hiding in the truck's sleeper grabbed him from behind and brandished a handgun.

The gunman forced the trucker to drive to an industrial area near Judson Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, and ordered him out of the truck and into another vehicle occupied by two men.

They allegedly drove him to Arcadia, near Pasadena, where they let him go. The truck was later found parked near Judson Avenue with the container and electronic equipment gone.

Anyone with information should contact the Long Beach Police at (562) 570-7362.
