Diesel prices rise for 10th consecutive week

Weekly retail on-highway diesel prices released by the Energy Department Oct. 21 show the national average cost of diesel rose from $1.461 last week to $1.469 this week. It's the 10th consecutive week the cost of diesel fuel has risen.

The highest prices nationally are in California, where the price this week is $1.554. The lowest average prices this week are in the Lower Atlantic region. Fuel there is $1.427 per gallon.

The remaining regions' price-per-gallon is as follows: East Coast, $1.454; New England, $1.488; Central Atlantic, $1.51; Midwest, $1.471; Gulf Coast, $1.439; Rocky Mountain, $1.512; and the West Coast, $1.526, respectively. The Department of Energy reports the average price of self-serve each week. Prices are based on a survey of 350 diesel service centers nationwide and include taxes.
