| Friday, October 28, 2011

An extension of the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax has been passed by Congress and signed by the President. It lasts through Sept. 30, 2012.

Taxpayers will be required to file Form 2290 for the 2011 tax year for all qualified vehicles first used in July, August, September and October 2011. The form is expected to be available by Nov. 1 and will become delinquent after Nov. 30, 2011.

The Internal Revenue Service is not sending 2290 forms via mail. The new Form 2290 will be available at your local IRS office or on the IRS website. The IRS will not provide a stamped (receipted) Schedule 1 until Nov. 1, 2011.

Fees will remain the same for trucks registered at 80,000 lbs GVW – $550 per truck.

OOIDA can file your Form 2290 electronically. For details, call us at 800-444-5791 or email oosi_permits@ooida.com. To ensure that your filing is submitted and accepted by the IRS, please contact OOIDA no later than Nov. 21, 2011.
