Flip-flop fails to fool authorities

In a move that turned out to be less James Bond and more Austin Powers, last week a truck driver tried to use a flip-up license plate to avoid paying tolls on the George Washington Bridge.

News outlets are reporting that the driver, Nelson Vaquiz of Beaverdam, VA, had a cable rigged up in the cab of his truck that would flip up his front license plate when he pulled on it. He tried the trick while passing through a gateless toll lane on Interstate 95 without a transponder. He had also bent up his rear plate so it couldn’t be read by cameras.

Unfortunately for Vaquiz, an eagle-eyed officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spotted the flip and turned his master plan into a flop.
