A 10-mile stretch of Interstate-29 is now closed from just north of Council Bluffs, Iowa to the I-680 interchange. That’s mile markers 61 to 71, a stretch that Iowa DOT says carries about 20,000 vehicles a day.
DOT spokeswoman Dena Gray-Fisher says there’s water over that part of the interstate today. She says the 40-mile-long detour is taking traffic on Interstate-80 and I-680. She says they’re expecting to have to shut-down more of I-29 in the Hamburg area near the Missouri border.
Gray-Fisher says there are other hot spots along I-29 all the way from Sioux City southward to the Missouri border that could flood.
As of Friday afternoon, the only section of I-29 that’s closed is the one just north of Council Bluffs.
