Several years ago the U.S. Postal Service paid a premium price for about 46,000 delivery trucks and vans that can run on either gas or ethanol.
But the Government Accountability Office, the government’s watchdog agency, says the vehicles are being run on regular gas because ethanol is costlier and isn’t always available. The GAO report also says the entire postal fleet is getting old but that there’s no money to replace it with.
And instead of earning money, the postal service says it expects to lose more than $8 billion this year.
