Driving time for fuel haulers extended in Pennsylvania

| Tuesday, January 25, 2011

To keep Pennsylvania residents stocked with heating oil and propane, the state transportation secretary has extended to 14 hours the daily driving limit for truckers making the deliveries.

Acting State Transportation Secretary Scott Christie temporarily waived some of the hours-of-service requirements to help with delivery of heating oil and propane gas to homes and businesses.

Christie?s action came on Friday, Jan. 21, shortly after Gov. Tom Corbett issued an emergency declaration for the state. Christie?s waiver on HOS extends the daily driving limit for fuel haulers in the state to 14 hours. According to a press release from the state DOT, the exemption is also granted from the requirements of the 60/70-hour limits rule.

The waiver will remain in place through February. 7.
