Those planning to apply for an OOIDA-Mary Johnston Scholarship have only a few more weeks to submit their applications.
That’s because scholarship applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, Feb. 1.
During the past 12 years, the OOIDA Scholarship Committee has helped 55 students achieve their dreams of going on to college or trade school. The committee is currently accepting applications to award five more scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.
Those eligible for the scholarships include the children, grandchildren and legal dependents of dues-paying OOIDA members.
The first-place scholarship winner will receives a $2,000 award and another four winners will receive $1,000 scholarships that can be renewed for up to four years of school.
Scholarship winners are selected based on grades, extracurricular activities and a 500-word essay based on the following three questions:
- List and discuss three positive aspects of the influence of the trucker in your life;
- How does your choice of an educational goal utilize the strongest attributes of your personality; and
- Formulate a helpful suggestion on how to improve the public image of professional truck drivers.
