Earlier this week the Missouri Department of Transportation announced the temporary closures of two rest areas on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44.
Both were closed on Tuesday, Jan. 4, for repairs, but there’s no estimated date at this time for when these sites will reopen, according to DeAnne Rickabaugh, MoDOT spokesperson for Motor Carrier services.
However, she added that these are temporary closures and the sites will be reopened as soon as possible.
One of the rest areas closed is on Interstate 70 in Mineola (eastbound) at mile marker 168. Rickabaugh said the Mineola site, which has 20 truck parking spaces, was likely closed because of “ongoing water and drainage issues.”
The second closed site is located on I-44 at the Halltown (eastbound) rest area, located at mile marker 52. Rickabaugh said the site remains closed because MoDOT workers reported more extensive repairs than were originally expected.
She said the Halltown (westbound) rest area will close for repairs beginning on Monday, Jan. 10.
While these sites are closed, truckers are not allowed to park at these sites.
“We are working to get these rest areas reopened,” Rickabaugh said. “We know that truckers’ having a place to sleep it vital with their hours-of-service
