Authorities have released the name of a man who died last weekend at a Nevada truck stop in an apparent accident. Jose Ayala-Sarabia of Las Vegas was killed when a semi truck fell on him while he was changing a tire.
The Clark County coroner’s office says a cause of death remains pending.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas police say Ayala-Sarabia was working on the semi truck at a Maverick Truck Stop off Las Vegas Boulevard North near Cheyenne Avenue when the accident happened about 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5.
The front axle of the truck broke on the driver’s side while Ayala-Sarabia was changing the tire, according to witnesses who spoke to Las Vegas News 3.
Ayala-Sarabia was pinned beneath the vehicle until a fire department heavy rescue team was able to free him. He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.
The Sun reports that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the case as a work-related accident.
