Still time to participate in Truckers for Troops

| Friday, December 10, 2010

It’s too soon to tell how much has been raised for care packages for troops serving in combat zones overseas, but it’s not too late to be a part of OOIDA’s Truckers for Troops campaign.

All week, OOIDA’s radio show, Land Line Now, has been promoting the event during its regularly scheduled broadcasts. You will be able to catch encores of a few of the shows from earlier in the week on Saturday and Sunday. The show airs on XM 171 and Sirius 147 at 7 p.m. Eastern time, with an encore broadcast at midnight Eastern.

During the week of the campaign, Dec. 6-10, truckers have been able to join OOIDA or renew their memberships for $25. Ten percent of that is going toward purchasing and shipping care packages overseas. The Association will match the 10 percent dollar for dollar during the week of the event. Last year, OOIDA sent 622 70-pound care packages overseas, serving more than 7,464 troops.

But Friday wasn’t really the last day to get the good deal on membership or to donate.

Here’s how you can do it. After business hours, call 800-444-5791. If you get our automated system, press 1; leave your name and phone number, and we’ll call you back.

Or join online here – just put the word “troops” in the space for promo code.

Starting Monday, OOIDA’s Membership Department will return calls as soon as possible and complete the online applications and donations.

Tune into Land Line Now and watch for an announcement of the final totals.
