Two truckers were killed in separate crashes within five miles of each other on Interstate 57 south of Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 19. And in both cases, the victims ran into the rear of another truck that had slowed for construction.
Illinois state police say the first wreck happened on southbound I-57 at mile marker 330 about 9:30 a.m. Traffic had slowed for both construction and an earlier accident.
The second wreck occurred in the northbound lanes at mile marker 325 around 5 p.m. Again, traffic had slowed for construction when a tractor-trailer slammed into the rear of another truck, which then hit the truck in front of it.
The victims’ names and their companies had not been released as of Friday afternoon.
