Arrow Truck Sales is soliciting stories from truckers who deserve to be back on the road but who have lost their trucks and livelihoods due to situations beyond their control.
The Back on the Road 2010 campaign presented by Volvo Trucks North America is in full swing with nominations due Sunday, Dec. 6.
Nominations must be in the form of a 250-word story, explaining why the trucker deserves to win a truck from Volvo and get back on the road. Perhaps it is a story about family loss, a natural disaster or a return from military service. Applicants can be friends, family, associates or the truckers themselves.
Check out the grand prize: A 2007 Volvo VNL670; a one-year work agreement with Heartland Express; insurance from OOIDA; an APU from Thermo King; a set of X One tires from Michelin; a three-year warranty from National Truck Protection; monthly $500 fuel cards from Pilot Travel Centers; filter products from Genuine Volvo Parts; truck accessories and fenders from Minimizer; and business consulting tools from ATBS.
Arrow will present the grand prize in March 2010 during the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY.
This is the third year for the Back on the Road program.
The 2009 winner was OOIDA member Dennis Lott of Columbus, OH, who had served his country for 33 years in the Air Force and who aspired to be an over-the-road trucker.
A back injury during a parachute training exercise sidelined Dennis from active military duty, but he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves and was called up following 9/11. With his back now healed from his injury, Dennis is out there as a full-time trucker.
In 2008, OOIDA member Donald Turkelson of Battle Creek, MI, was awarded the grand prize, allowing him to get back into trucking after being shot in 2002 by an attempted hijacker.
