Committee reports Ferro nomination to full Senate

| Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Anne Ferro of the Maryland Motor Truck Association has cleared another hurdle on her way to becoming FMCSA administrator.

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee voted favorably on Tuesday, Oct. 27, to report Ferro’s nomination out of committee and on to the full Senate.

Ferro, who has served as president of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, told the committee back on Sept. 23 that she is a “public servant at heart with a passion for highway safety and a commitment to good government.”

Ferro showed poise in answering an onslaught of questions about lobbying, hours of service, electronic on-board recorders, cross-border trucking, truck weight and bus safety during the confirmation process.

If confirmed by the full Senate, Ferro says she will work on reducing the incidence and severity of crashes involving commercial vehicles.

“This has proven to be a daunting challenge in a multi-sector industry where segments of it have such low barriers to entry that competition for business is sometimes characterized as a race to the bottom,” she told the committee during the nomination process.
