Small trucking businesses in Texas may be eligible for grant money aimed at cutting diesel emissions.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recently opened up the application process for its Rebate Grants Program.

The program is open to truck owners who operate the equipment for at least 75 percent of annual miles in the following counties: Bastrop, Bexar, Brazoria, Caldwell, Chambers, Collin, Comal, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fort Bend, Galveston, Gregg, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hays, Jefferson, Johnson, Kaufman, Liberty, Montgomery, Orange, Parker, Rockwall, Rusk, Smith, Tarrant, Travis, Upshur, Waller, Williamson and Wilson.

The grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is totally distributed, or until March 31, 2010.

More information is available here.

Grants will only be issued for the repowering or replacement of non-road and on-road vehicles and equipment, the TCEQ Web site states.
