An OOIDA member from Firestone, CO, who was named the 2008 Goodyear highway hero has now been handed another honor.

Jorge Orozco-Sanchez will receive a Carnegie Medal for heroism for rescuing two young sisters from a burning car in October 2008.

The Carnegie program was established by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie following a coal mine explosion in 1904 that killed 181 people – including two who rushed into the mine to try to save others.

Carnegie immediately established a fund to assist those he called “civilizations’ heroes.”

Jorge is one of 20 people in the U.S. and Canada to receive the Carnegie Medal for heroism.

OOIDA has also recognized Jorge’s heroic act by helping him get back on the road in a new grain-hauling truck.
