| Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Pilot Travel Centers became the first diesel retailer to offer Diesel Exhaust Fluid pumps at fuel islands this week, Sept. the truck stop chain announced.

Fuel island pumps offered DEF at Pilot Travel Centers in Brooks, OR, and Charlotte, NC, with an initial price of $2.79 per gallon, the company stated in a news release.

The DEF pumps are being rolled out as Pilot prepares to serve MY 2010 trucks equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to meet the near-zero emissions requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

A full tank of DEF covers 6,000 miles, Pilot said.

The company plans to install DEF pumps at 100 travel center locations between late 2009 and the first quarter of 2010. Prepackaged DEF supplies will be available at the chain’s 350 retail locations.

SCR is estimated to reduce NOx emissions by up to 90 percent in Class 8 heavy-duty trucks, according to Pilot.
