FMCSA proposes increased UCR fees

| Friday, September 04, 2009

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register to establish an increase in the fees that interstate commercial truck and bus companies, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies must pay under the UCR Plan for registration year 2010.

FMCSA reports that states have been unable to effectively collect the UCR revenue they are entitled to by law during the 2007-2009 registration years. The FMCSA believes its proposed new fee levels will both encourage states to aggressively enforce the UCR fees rule and generate the necessary revenue to execute state motor carrier safety programs.

Interested parties will have 15 days from the Sept. 3 publication date to comment on the proposed fees and can do so by going to www.Regulations.gov. The docket number is FMCSA-2009-0231.
