Tutorial for truck owners: CARB wants to reach out

| Thursday, June 11, 2009

The California Air Resources Board, which has hit trucking with many regulations in the past few years, now wants to help truckers become aware of the regs as well as ways they can obtain grants and loans for truck equipment.

The Board is scheduled to conduct its next monthly public meeting in Sacramento at 9 a.m. on June 25, 2009.

CARB has funding programs for truck owners to upgrade diesel engines and reduce emissions through Proposition 1B, the Carl Moyer Program, the new Carl Moyer Voucher Incentive Program and a loan assistance program.

The environmental agency wants to tell truckers about the funding programs and new regulations by adopting a “streamlined and integrated approach,” which would include using phones, expanding its Internet presence, and developing a new, centralized Web site to increase CARB’s outreach, according to a public notice.

The new Web site would be easy to navigate and would be designed to include relevant truck-related information. CARB already has developed a telephone hotline at 1-866 6DIESEL (866-634-3735) that is up and running.

Truckers and other members of the public may present comments at the meeting or in writing or by e-mail before the meeting. To be considered by the Board, written comments must be received no later than noon on June 24.

In order for comments to be read by Board members and staff before the meeting, the agency asks that written comments be submitted 10 days before meetings.

Comments may be mailed to:

Clerk of the Board
Air Resources Board
1001 I Street
Sacramento CA 95814

Comments can be filed electronically to www.arb.ca.gov/lispub/comm/bclist.php, or faxed to 916-322-3928.
