The head of the Maryland Motor Truck Association is the Obama administration’s pick to head the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Anne Ferro’s nomination to the FMCSA administrator post came down from the White House late in the day, Thursday.

Ferro, the current president and CEO of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, has a long history of working in and around vehicle-related fields.

She was hired to steer the Maryland Motor Truck Association after 11 years at the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, according to an article profiling Ferro in The Baltimore Port magazine. While with the MVA she served as both administrator and associate administrator.

Ferro took her role advocating for the Maryland trucking industry to heart, telling the magazine that increasing public awareness and improving the public image of the industry were some of her top priorities when she joined MMTA in 2004.

Since being in the Maryland Motor Truck Association, she has advocated for more truck parking on the interstates in Maryland, fought toll increases in the state, and advocated for truck driver training to name a few key issues.
