Signs to remind Illinois drivers to pay tolls

| Tuesday, May 26, 2009

In an effort to encourage drivers to pay their skipped tolls before fines kick in, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority has launched a new advertising campaign.

Signs posted along the toll road are targeted toward drivers who may have accidentally gotten into the I-PASS automatic pay lanes without realizing it. The signs will remind drivers that they have seven days to pay the tolls before a fine is levied.

Some of the signs will be modeled after the old Burma Shave advertising campaign, with signs that are meant to be read consecutively posted along the road.

The Authority is also in the middle of its annual violation spring cleaning program, which runs through June 30 and gives drivers the opportunity to pay outstanding missed tolls and other violations without any additional fines.
