Concert to benefit cancer-stricken driver

Facebook? Twitter? Plenty of people wonder about social networking and how the virtual world of the Internet is interacting with the real world. Here’s a good example.

DriversAlike.ning.com is an online social network for drivers. Next month, it is sponsoring a real live on-site benefit for an OOIDA member who is sick with cancer.

That member is Tim Bennett, a 41-year-old truck driver who lives in Bybee, TN, with his wife and children. Formerly a driver for Averitt Express, Tim has been diagnosed with renal cell cancer and is no longer able to drive. The family reports his cancer is in an advanced stage.

The benefit is planned for March 14 at the National Guard Armory in Newport, TN. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. and include a concert performed by Long Haul Band. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available along with a raffle to give those that attend the chance to win prizes. All proceeds will go towards helping Tim and his family.
