Truckers who need to do business with the California Department of Motor Vehicles will find those offices closed two weekdays each month as the state cuts back on services to reduce its $42 billion deficit. Other state departments are also closing on certain days to save money.
A letter from the DMV says the offices will shut down on the first and third Friday of each month, beginning Feb. 6. The DMV says not only will there be no employees at the offices, but there will also be no assistance by e-mail or telephone on those days.
In addition, Saturday service was recently discontinued.
