OOIDA receives salute from U.S. Army

| Monday, January 12, 2009

The success of OOIDA’s most recent Truckers for Troops telethon has been a source of smiles and warm thoughts at headquarters these past few weeks.

The generosity of all the truckers and industry personnel who participated in the Telethon has been recognized by Secretary of the Army Pete Green and Army Chief of Staff George W. Casey Jr.

A U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute Commendation was given to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association “for outstanding contributions to the United States Army.”

If you participated in the telethon, you can click here to view and print your copy of the salute.

OOIDA’s Truckers for Troops Telethon began in 2007. It has since raised more than $95,000 to purchase supplies and postage for care packages sent to troops in active duty overseas.

In 2008,  212 huge care packages were sent overseas. Each contained gifts for 12 soldiers.

The 2008 telethon had more than 2,500 participants who donated more than $54,000. OOIDA staff volunteers will begin assembling and shipping care packages later this month.
