Exxon Mobil Corp. officials plan to spend more than $1 billion over the next few years to increase its global production of ultra-low-sulfur diesel by about 10 percent.

The company will construct new units and modify existing facilities at its Baton Rouge, LA; Baytown, TX; and Antwerp, Belgium, refineries.

The Associated Press reports that when the upgrades are completed in 2010, ExxonMobil will account for about 8 percent of the world’s diesel output.
