I-25 to be closed Thursday in Denver during Obama appearance

| Wednesday, August 27, 2008

All lanes of Interstate 25 will be closed Thursday, Aug. 28, near downtown Denver for security purposes during the scheduled appearance of presidential hopeful Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention.

A 5.5-mile stretch of I-25 that runs directly past Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium is scheduled to be closed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and remain closed until the night’s events conclude. The closure will begin at Sixth Avenue and end at the Interstate 70 interchange, otherwise known as “The Mousetrap.”

In addition to the I-25 closure, truckers who haul the type of hazmat that’s restricted to designated hazmat routes will be detoured around downtown Denver during the convention – except for local pickup and delivery.

The convention is under way in the downtown Denver area Aug. 25-28.
