Texas trial starts in trucker’s slaying

| 8/19/2008

In Arlington, TX, the trial of 20-year-old James Curnel was scheduled to start Tuesday, Aug. 19. Curnel is one of four men charged in the murder of Plano truck driver Sevenler Cavit.

Cavit was killed by a shotgun blast in a motel parking lot in Grand Prairie in January 2007. Investigators say that Cavit had been approached by a man who asked to use his cell phone and that a loud argument ensued.

Prosecutors say Curnel and the other three men were actually planning to steal Cavit’s tractor-trailer. Curnel faces life in prison if convicted.
