Wisconsin’s diesel particulate filter retrofit program has enough money for a few more grants before closing out the emissions-cutting program for the year. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 15.
The state Department of Commerce will accept applications until Aug. 15, but may choose to award the grants on a first-come first-serve basis.
To apply for the Diesel Exhaust Retrofit Grant Program, which covers 100 percent of the cost of a retrofit, visit commerce.wi.gov/retrofitgrant. The program originally had $50,000 available, and as of July 30, the Web site reported that about $27,000 was still available.
To be eligible, applicants must be a common, contract or private motor carrier that transports freight. They must also be headquartered in Wisconsin or have trucking routes mainly in Wisconsin and the Midwest. Applicants must also agree to collect and report information about the operation and performance of each retrofit.
The state is on a strict time budget to award the money, and therefore is requiring the retrofits to be purchased and installed by Sept. 19.
