Brazen fuel theft thwarted when trucker resists

An Ohio trucker has been charged with felony theft after he allegedly siphoned fuel from another truck and was prevented from escaping by his victim.

The Chillicothe Gazette reported that 49-year-old Carl Wilson allegedly used a hose early Sunday morning, May 18, to siphon fuel at a truck stop near McArthur in rural, southeast Ohio.

The truck’s owner, Mike Ebert, was on his cell phone in the sleeper berth. He hung up and called the sheriff’s office, then got out and confronted Wilson. Investigators said Wilson tried to drive off, but Ebert jumped in the cab, grabbed the steering wheel, and drove the rig into a ditch.

Two sheriff’s deputies pulled up and took Wilson into custody.

Even though Ebert said he had seen the hose running between his diesel tank and the other truck, Wilson said the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
