$18 million settlement in fatal Interstate 70 truck wreck

A trucking company whose driver struck a car on Interstate 70 in Missouri two years ago, killing four women, has agreed to pay $18 million to the victims’ families.

The Kansas City Star reported that Pro Logistics Inc. and its parent company CenTra Inc. settled after a federal jury found them liable for negligence in the deaths.

The plaintiff’s attorney said the evidence showed the company didn’t screen drivers carefully enough and failed to ensure that drivers got sufficient rest.

The truck driver, 61-year-old George Albright Jr., still faces trial on four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

And the trucking company is due back in court later this year to face a separate lawsuit filed by the husband of one of the victims.
