Truckers gear up for March 31 fuel-price rally at Pennsylvania Capitol

| Thursday, March 27, 2008

A group of truckers near Harrisburg, PA, are putting the finishing touches on a plan to bobtail to the state Capitol building on Monday, March 31.

The truckers want to draw attention to high fuel prices and the opposition of truckers to plans by the governor to toll Interstate 80 and/or lease the Pennsylvania Turnpike to private investors.

Event organizer Mark Kirsch, an owner-operator and OOIDA member from Myerstown, PA, has scheduled one more planning session before the event. The planning session is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Harrisburg Gables Truck Stop at the Exit 77 interchange on Interstate 81. Previous planning sessions have drawn up to 250 people.

Kirsch told Land Line that truckers will begin queuing up at 6 a.m., Monday at the Gables for the trip into Harrisburg.

Kirsch previously told Land Line that, depending on how things go, organizers might also plan a similar trip to raise awareness in Washington, DC.
