The national average price of diesel went up another 4 cents overnight Thursday to a new record high of $3.40 a gallon.
That’s according to ProMiles, which shows diesel averaging $3.71 in Washington state and $3.60 in California.
The mainstream media is beginning to report on the high price of diesel fuel. On Thursday, the Indianapolis Star quoted the head of the Indiana Motor Truck Association as saying his members are “scared to death,” and that he thinks some trucking companies will go under.
The Albany Times Union in New York quotes the owner of C&R Trucking as saying smaller companies are “really taking a hit.”
As for gas prices, AAA listed the national average for unleaded Thursday at $3.06 a gallon. KSBW-TV in Salinas, CA, reports that the average is $4 a gallon statewide – and that at least one station near Big Sur is charging $5 a gallon.
